Subject: Annual Doo Wop Charity Concert – In Memory of Joseph A. De Lorenzo
My dad passed away on May 20th, 2010. As you may know my dad and uncle made their fortunes in real estate, always looking to protect their financial situation through the banks. Dad, in his Last Will and Testament, provided for his family, friends and 33 of his favorite charities. We have already begun working on a photo video of dad’s life and times. Even before me, dad had met the love of his life, Lisa and truly loved her daughter Heidi, until both of their deaths some years ago. I was there from the beginning back in 1954, and want to share some of their memories. Heidi was my initial introduction to Doo Wop, which originally got me into all my teen years singing and performing with The Laurels. My tribute to Dad, Lisa and Heidi will be available online when the project is completed. My deepest love and appreciation to dad for all of his love, guidance and assistance throughout my life for me and my family!
We plan to continue in the tradition, with a view towards setting up our own foundation … The De Lorenzo Family Foundation (St. Jude’s is the first charitable organization to be tentatively selected.) Paulina will be working on making our plans about our foundation a reality.
One of my goals for the foundation is to help with the contributions and fund raising. I plan on using The DesertView Performing Arts Center in SaddleBrooke to house our annual Doo Wop Charity Concert. We have yet to contact the Performing Arts Center, but believe we won’t have any problems. The Center has already hosted many Doo Wop favorites, including The Platters, The Diamonds, Frankie Avalon, and Tony Orlando. Each with their own show!
My good friend Nick, of the Skyliners, will be an honorary Chairman of the Entertainment Committee and has already begun trying to setup our first show. Click on the link for our http://TheSkylinersFanClub.com .
In addition to The Skyliners who will headline our first show, we presently hope to include my old and dear friend Jack Carlson’s Cathy Jean & The Roomates. My Tribute to Jack and The Roomates is available for viewing. Some of the other acts now being considered include: The Duprees, The Fleetwoods, The Tokens, and The Marcels and (as alternates) possibly The Mystics, The Earls and others. We’ll be posting lots more info on our websites as it becomes available. We hope you will attend the concert! … Bring Money <g>
We hope that our niece, Kim and her husband, Andreas, will attend and that Andreas can film the concert. Like most of our life, we want lots of photos and will make our photos and video available for viewing and download after the concert. (Andreas is in the video business).
We are now pursuing some of our personal dreams, including building a larger family home on a large plot of land in the Tucson area, as well as the acquisition of a Bed and Breakfast in Las Cruces, NM. In fact, we’ll be in Las Cruces, NM to begin the process on June 22nd and returning home about a week later. Since these are only in the very early stages, we don’t have much to say about these as yet. If you have any interest in our adventures, we plan on making our activities public on our main website (http://SaddleBrookeTimes.com) as these become more of a reality.
In keeping with the family tradition, Son John will be responsible for our business activities for investing in Tax Liens and real estate in AZ and NM (at an extremely slow rate, until he has gotten his “De Lorenzo Sea Legs”). This is probably going to take quite some time. Being the cautious people our family is known to be, we will be investing slowly as we begin to see results. While we had recently begun on a relatively small scale, our new circumstances have expanded our horizons.
Thank you for your well wishes and assistance during these very sad times. Hopefully, you will continue to be there during our time of need. If you have any questions, please call me (520-429-4738).
Please forward this to any and all you think may have an interest, as we plan to forward to all of our family, friends and acquaintances. Also, let me know if you know of anyone that would like to join us as sponsors in our ongoing efforts.
